Serena Williams Gets to Australian Open Semi-Finals

Serena Williams defeated her rival Johana Konta with a 6-2, 6-3 to reach the Australian Open semi-finals. Konta broke the second-seeded star to go up 2-1. But Serena broke back to level the score at 3-all. She concluded with 10 aces, but only connected on 45 percent of her overall first serves.

Serena, who has reached her 10th consecutive Grand semi-finals, is bidding for a record 23rd major title. In the last two years, this is the second time that three women in their 30s have got to the semifinals at a major: Serena Williams, 35, Venus Williams, 36, and Lucic-Braoni, 34.

At the 2015 U.S. Open also Serena got to the semifinals along with Roberta Vinci and Flavia Pennetta, who are too in their thirties. After the match, Serena said "Thirties is the new 10. No matter what happens, somebody 34 or older will be in the final."

In the semifinals, Serena will face Mirjana Lucic-Baroni who won over fifth-seeded Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. She has waited nearly 18 years to get back to this stage. Her last run was in the Wimbledon semifinals in 1999, when she was just 17.
