Serena Williams: The Star of Tennis

Serena Jameka Williams has been a renowned name in the world of tennis. She is a professional American tennis player born on September 26, 1981, in Saginaw, Michigan who has been ranked as the world’s No. 1 in singles by The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Various sportsperson, players, commentators have claimed her to be the greatest tennis player of all time among females. Serena Williams holds the maximum Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles combined with active players.

She has the record of 39 Grand Slam titles which puts her on the 3rd position of all-time list and 2nd in the Open Era. She is said to be the only tennis player in the history whether man or woman to have won singles titles for six times in three out of four Grand Slam tournaments. Serena has a great number of victories under her name like the only player to win two Grand slams seven times each which are 7 Wimbledon titles and 7 Australian Open titles. She holds the record of winning the most woman’s singles matches at the Grand Slams with 316 matches. Serena Williams along with her elder sister Venus Williams was groomed by their father at the age of three for their tennis career. Venus and Serena changed the entire look of their sport with their signature style and play. Both of them overwhelmed their opponents and other players with their sense of style and presence that made them stand out from the rest of the crowd. In 2011, Serena underwent a series of health when the doctor found a blood clot in one of her lungs which kept her from playing tennis for a long time. Lots of speculations were made regarding her retirement but fortunately Serena’s health improved by September 2011, and came back to her dominant self at U.S. Open. Serena Williams has earned $28.9 million in prize money and endorsements and thus became the highest paid female athlete in year.
