Shabnim Ismail: The Fastest Bowler In Women’s Cricket
Editorials News | Oct-30-2019
You can tell a lot about a person by the car they choose to drive. Its size tells you about lifestyle and budget, the color about personality, and the driving speed about approach. So when you see Shabnim Ismail zooming around in her bright yellow sports-hatchback hybrid, she comes across as a dreamer who doesn’t mind pushing the limits.
Ismail, the leader of the South African bowling attack said that “I always wanted a fast car”
Ford Focus ST is her dream car as she said while talking about her car that everything in her life is fast, her eating style, her bowling style each and everything so it was her dream to get a fastest car she also tells that when she got contracted she firstly went to purchase her dream car.
You may not spot her behind the wheel, because Ismail is of slight build and stands just 5’3’’ tall, hardly your prototypic fast bowler. But when she bowls, you are inviting for a trouble. Better example of this situation is Shafali Verma, whose helmet was dented in the T20I series. Ask Smriti Mandhana, whose pull shot her favourite was too late for an Ismail bouncer. Ask Priya Punia, who Ismail bounced out not once, but twice in the ODI series. With a strong upper body and quick arm speed, Ismail frequently importune speeds of upwards of 120 km/h, making her the fastest bowler in the women’s cricket.
Since her first step at age 18, more than a decade she is leading with South African attacks in the age of 30 years. Connected with Marizanne Kapp, she forms one half of what is no doubt the best fast bowling combination in international cricket.
She is the youngest in seven siblings, born to parents who both migrated from India, she never supposed to play cricket. While playing football in school with the boys, her friend asked her to try cricket once. Ismail was one of the first six players who were offered central contracts by Cricket South Africa in 2013. But that has not changed the attitude with which she approached her cricket.
