Editorials News | Dec-02-2019
The Ludhiana Police has recently come up with an initiative keeping in mind the drastic situations and harsh crimes against girls and women. It has launched an initiative wherein women who is alone and cannot find vehicles to return home between 10 PM and 6 AM will be dropped in police vehicles that too free of charge. It has also launched the all new Shakti app, which enables women to share their location with 10 contacts and the nearest PCR using an SOS feature.
Virtually handing over the ‘power’ in the hands of the people, the Punjab Police has launched ‘Shakti’ mobile application.
The app is designed especially for the womenfolk, and it aims at helping the victims in troubled times like the incidents of snatching, robbery, or other criminal activity. “All one have to do is download the application, which is available for both android-based phones and i-phones, then register yourself, and the Punjab police would be available at your service,” a senior Punjab Police official told in reports.
The best part which comes with this app is that it would even work if the mobile is stolen, or has been switched off after theft and all the information will be sent to the concerned SHO where the incident took place via SMS.
The ‘Shakti’ app also provides a “help” button which is a one touch alert to notify the Punjab police and the user’s family and friends. “As soon as the Shakti app user raises the SOS alert from the app, the location information will be transmitted to the Punjab Police control room and their predefined numbers. Punjab Police can after that then immediately sends the nearest Police help to the victim, elaborated one official.
If that is also not enough, the bilingual app comprising English and Punjabi, would also help the police officials to identify “unsafe” people among the public with their help. “In case, someone finds a person suspicious, the user can use “report unsafe” option from the app and click the picture of the suspected person and then share it along with the location, and reason for the same,” said another official.
