Sheroes Hangout: First Of Its Kind Initiative

There are very less initiatives in today’s era which are actually working to eradicate any social evil of our societies. Water crisis, Corruption, Education all are such sectors which are definitely in need of help and support but one should not forget that there are many others sectors and pointers too that needs to be taken care of. Crimes against women is very common in today’s era and is increasing in number year by year. May it be kidnapping or heinous crime like acid attack all need strong people to combat these social evils. Sheroes Hangout is first of its kind initiative in a country where beyond suppression, fierce trauma and scarred life five acid attack survivors run a heart-warming cafe.

Alok Dixit is the founder of Sheroes Cafe and Chhanv Foundation and also a key person behind the campaign team of #StopAcidAttacks campaign in India. In 2013 #StopAcidAttacks campaign was started and by 2014 the campaign turned into a registered organisation for the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors named as Chhanv Foundation. The idea of Sheroes Hangout came up when while helping the survivors to rehabilitate and providing them jobs at Chhanv Foundation, it was found that many of them lacked professional skills and so the thought of a cafe came up as it could be the only place where both the skilled and non-skilled ones can work and earn together besides spreading awareness to other people about acid attacks. This will not only help in boosting their self confidence but will also spread a positive message in all over the society.
The first cafe of Sheroes Hangout was established in Agra in 2015 and then in Lucknow and Udaipur by 2017. Chhanv Foundation’s campaign #StopAcidAttacks provides the fighters with business exposure and each cafe is run only by these fighters.

2019 has brought more enhancement in this organization and has helped hundreds. There are more such initiatives running in this society and its time that the youth of this country thinks about these social responsibilities and not just focus on basic things.
