Siddle, Khawaja Recalled To Be A Part Of The Australian ODI Squad
Editorials News | Jan-09-2019
Peter Siddle is a very well-known Australian cricketer. He last played a one-day international for Australia back in the year 2010. Lately, he has been recalled for the ODIs against India.
This is one of several changes to the set-up that have taken place. Presently, Australia is standing at No.6 on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings in a World Cup year. Simultaneously, and on the back of series defeats in England and at home against South Africa, the selectors decided to make drastic changes in the 14-man squad. The final list of players was announced on Friday, 4 January. Not just Siddle, but other test regulars Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon have also been recalled, while Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff and Billy Stanlake join Siddle in making up a new-look pace attack. On the other hand, Batsmen Travis Head, Chris Lynn, D'Arcy Short and Ben McDermott, and all-rounder Ashton Agar have been left out from the side that lost 1-2 to South Africa. The decision makers have decided to put at rest the fast-bowling trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins after the four-match Test series. Nathan Coulter-Nile has been kept out because he had a complaint of lower-back soreness. Aaron Finch, the ODI captain has also not been able to make it for the test. He still continues to be the ODI captain along with Alex Carey and Mitchell Marsh as his deputies. Shaun Marsh, all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, and leg-spinner Adam Zampa have been able to retain their places in the final list. Trevor Hohns, the national selector stated that after facing a disappointed phase in the one day international cricket, the national selection panel with the help of the coaches has performed an in depth review of the performance of the team and has chalked about areas that require improvement. Siddle, 34 years old player, had played the last of his 17 ODIs almost eight years ago against Sri Lanka in Sydney. Hohns stated that it’s absolutely to have players like Siddle back in the team. As his age is increasing, so are his skills as a cricketer. His selection is reflective of his professionalism and strong leadership qualities. As has been scheduled, Australia and India will play three ODIs, on January 12, 15 and 18. The Australian squad consists of the following players: Aaron Finch (c), Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Mitch Marsh (vc), Alex Carey (vc), Jhye Richardson, Billy Stanlake, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa.
