Social Media And Manicured Life
Editorials News | Oct-21-2023
People these days are on their phones 24/7 scrolling, conversing, and getting entertained. They consume everything that is put on their plates as a platter. From a picture of the food on someone’s plate to someone going out all dressed up for a party, everything is posted and consumed on social media. People are very keen to share their day-to-day activities with the people they are connected to and want to show how happy and perfect their life is. But is all this creating a positive impact on people or just pushing them on the verge of comparison?
Human is a greedy being and is never satisfied with what he has. The main reason behind this is comparison. People compare themselves to others and also to the lives they are living. They always want more of everything and the same is the case with Social media. It is creating a false image of picture-perfect life in the mind of people and people are just blindly running after it.
Every day people are exposed to edited photographs and videos of individuals with perfect skin and perfect body making false image in their heads of being perfect and happy every time, but life is not a smooth bed of flowers but a rollercoaster ride which have nothing as perfect in it. You just find perfection in what you have and that is something that is to be learned by individuals.
Many parents post the achievements of their children but fail to do so when failed reason is the perfect lifestyle that they want to promote. Every individual is posting things on social media as if it is some sort of competition when in reality it is not. Every individual has their talents and weak points and every one of them should be celebrated.
However, the unrealistic standards are set by people who are close to us, not by celebrities or models but by friends and peers. We look at people going on vacations and having a fun time with family and friends and feel envious of them and want to do the same, we look at people being successful in their fields, and looking at ourselves puts us into self-realization that we ain’t doing more or less of anything in our lives. This attitude towards our lives is what makes us lack purpose in life. Instead of focusing on ourselves, we start getting jealous of others' success.
Social Media was introduced to have an undisturbed flow of communication and connection with individuals. But when it turned out to be a ground of comparison for everyone is still unknown. Social media makes us blind to what we want to do rather we focus more on what other is doing. We forget that every individual has their own pace of everything and is gifted with different virtues, but a human being blinded by the shine of glamour fails to realize the beauty in everything.
