Editorials News | Mar-14-2019
Abhinandan Varthaman, Indian Air Force pilot has become a household name across the country ever since he pursued the fighter jets of Pakistan across the Line of Control and shot down their F-16 fighter. He was captured after his plane was hit in the dogfight. Students in Rajasthan will soon be able to learn more in detail about the Wing Commander Abhinandan's bravery.
The department of Rajasthan education has proposed this idea of including a chapter on the valor of Wing Commander Varthaman in the textbooks of school.
Govind Singh Dotasra, Education minister of Rajasthan told news agency ANI that the tale of his bravery will motivate and provide strength and positiveness to students. Right beginning from his captivity in Pakistan to his release and return home to his nation India, the saga of Abhinandan's bravery will be included in the chapter in detail.
The minister also added that the education department will soon decide on which classes will be taught the chapter. On 27th February, 34-year-old Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman piloted a MiG-21 Bison aircraft along with seven other Indian jets for intercepting a pack of 24 Pakistani aircraft which were targeting Indian military installations. However, Abhinandan crossed the Line of Control chasing a Pak F-16 fighter jet where he was captured.
He was released on 1st March, hours after India demanded his "immediate and safe return". Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan claimed that the release was a "gesture of peace".
The confrontation erupted after the 14th February Pulwama attack by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, in which over 40 Indian soldiers were killed. Pakistan targeted the military facilities of India a day after India's air strikes on 26th February targeted a huge Jaish training facility in the Balakot of Pakistan, around 80 km from the Line of Control.
