Editorials News | May-13-2018
Sachin Tendulkar has emphasized on the need to transform the country from a "sports loving nation to a sports playing nation". He wants sports to be introduced as a subject in start of the schooling. He said that it was his dream to see sports as a subject from kindergarten. He was quoted saying this while launching Khel Mahakumbh at the Dharmshala stadium. Khel Mahakumbh is a rural sports initiative by Lok Sabha MP and Anurag Thakur, a former BCCI chief that intends to take sports to panchayat level in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
Tendulkar expressed contentment on CBSE introducing sports as a compulsory subject from Class 9th and said that sports can change lifestyle and make students healthier. He also wanted more women to opt for sports. Women are backbone of the family and country and they should be promoted in sports. He also asked students to work hard and avoid any shortcuts to success.
He narrated a story in which he scored 24 runs in a inter school tournament and the media manager said that he would extra runs to his score so that his name appears in the newspapers. When his coach came to know about the truth he asked him to score high if he wants his name to come in the newspapers. He said that you do not have to cheat to win and advised them to not get disheartened by defeat.
