Mount Abu is a popular hill station in the Aravalli Range in Sirohi district of Rajasthan state in western India, near the border with Gujarat. This beautiful and only hill station of Rajasthan encompasses lakes, temples, cool climate and a beautiful land.
It is the best option when one wants to run away from the scorching heat of Rajasthan. An exotic Mount Abu Summer Festival is celebrated here every year at the time of Buddha Purnima. This festival takes place in the Hindu month of Ashadh. According to the Gregorian calender, it takes place in the month of May or June. People enthusiastically come over and enjoy this festival wherein they are able to witness various forms of Rajasthani arts, crafts, music and dance. The festival depicts the colourful culture of Rajasthan, and its beyond comparison hospitality. The festival lasts for two days beginning from April 29. The festival starts with ballad singing, followed by Rajasthani and Gujarati folk dances and music. Further various competitions, cultural performances and entertainment programmes are organised. Diverse activities such as horse races, boat races at the Nakki Lake, matka races, tug of war, skating races, band show and more take place, as a result making the festival exciting. The major attraction for the crowd is the ‘Sham-e-Qawwali’, which features several popular qawwali singers. At the end the festival is closed with a spectacular display of fireworks.
