Summer Youth Olympics: Indian Under -18 Men’s Hockey

The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics which is officially known as III Summer Youth Olympic Games is being held at Buenos Aires. An International, sports and cultural events started on the 6th of October and will continue till the 18th of October 2018. It also happens to be the first Summer Youth Olympic games that are being held outside Asia and the first Youth Games either summer or winter to be held outside Eurasia.
Both the Indian Junior Men's and Women's Hockey team had qualified for the five-a-side competition. To attain qualification to the event both the men's and women's team had to prove their mettle at the Asian Youth Olympic games qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand. While the men's team defeated Malaysia but the women's team has to satisfy themselves as runners up after losing to China at their summit clash. The Buenos Aires 2018 Olympic Games will also be the first instance where both the Indian men's and women's hockey teams are participating in the quadrennial competition. They had not participated in the first two editions of the Youth Olympic Games held in 2010 and 2014.
The Indian under 18 men's Hockey team seems to be on a roll. They team registered their third consecutive win at the Youth Olympics at Buenos Aires beating Kenya to 7-1 in the third pool match that was held at Parque Polideportivo Roca on the 9th of October, Tuesday. India teams strength was Sudeep Chirmako, Rabichandra Moiranthem, skipper ‘Vivek Sagar Prasad, Sanjay and Rahul Kumar Rajbhar.
India will now face Australia in their fourth match of Hockey 5s competition that will commence on the 11th of October, 2018.
