1. M C Mary Kom (Boxing)
Mary Kom has been praised for the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award, after the Bharat Ratna. In 2013, she was honored with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri in 2006. Mary Kom has many plume to her cap; In 2014, she became the first Indian woman boxer to win a Gold Medal in Asian Games and the same at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
2. Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (Badminton)
In 2015, Pusarla Venkata Sindhu became the badminton superstar and received Padma Shri and has now been nominated for the Padma Bhushan. Earlier this year she written the history by becoming the first Indian to sew up a gold at the BWF World Championship 2019. She did this by finish off with Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in thirty-eight minutes.
3. Vinesh Phogat (Wrestling)
Wrestling champion Vinesh Phogat from Haryana is the first Indian to be nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Award. In 2018, Vinesh won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, silver in the Asian Championships and gold medal at the Jakarta Asian Games. The country is looking to the 25-year-old to secure a medal for India in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
4. Harmanpreet Kaur (Cricket)
Her knock of 171* against Australia at the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup is now inscribe in history. The sports ministry has dispatched Harmanpreet Kaur’s name for Padma Shri this year. Having grown up harboring dreams of portraying India in cricket, At the age of 20, Harmanpreet made her ODI debut against Pakistan Women’s cricket team. Harmanpreet also became the first Indian cricketer to be signed by an overseas Twenty20 franchise in June 2016.
5. Rani Rampal (Hockey)
At the age of six Haryana’s Rani Rampal set foot onto a hockey field. she made her first debut at the age of 14 in the Senior Indian Women’s hockey team as its youngest player. In 2016, when India certified for the Olympics after a long gap of 36 years, it was Rani who made the winning goal.
