Sushil Kumar: Lord of the Ring

Sushil Kumar has become a household name in India after his glorious success in the field of wrestling. Sushil was born on 26th May, 1983 and is an Indian freestyle wrestler. He has won various titles while competing in the 66kg weight category. Kumar won the 2010 world title,a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics that resulted in making him the only Indian to win two individual medals at the Olympics.
He was the second Indian to secure a medal in the Olympics in 2008, the first was Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav who won a bronze medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics.Sushil is also the recipient of the highest sportsperson honour in India i.e. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. He has also won the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games which took place in Glasgow. 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia experienced an outstanding performance of Sushil where he beat his opponent Johannes Botha in just 80 seconds and secured gold for his country. Sushil Kumar was awarded the fourth highest civilian award of India, Padma Shri in 2011. Sushil was inspired by his father who was also a wrestler and his cousin Sandeep but sandeep had to quit wrestling as the family could afford to support only one wrestler. Sushil is trained in Pehelwani from the age of 14 and he is a devoted Hindu and strictly vegetarian. Kumar has refused to 5 million by a liquor brand as he is against surrogate advertising.
