The gold winner in European wrestling Championship

Sooner Temirtau is a 27 year old Turkish freestyle wrestler who recently won the third gold medal in a row in wrestling. Sooner Temirtau won gold beating the French counterpart Zelimkhan Khadijev in Kaspiysk, Russia on 6 May’18. He won the European titles in 2016 and 2017. Also, he was a bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics in 2016.Demirtaş belong to a cat village of Tokat. His father was a butcher and he is the third on in his family. His three brothers are as well wrestlers and his eldest brother Bekir Demirtaş inspired him to join wrestling.

Demirtaş has won various championships from 2010. He internationally debuted at the Freestyle Wrestling – Junior World Championships 2010 held in Budapest, Hungary, where he captured the silver medal. He also took part at the 2012 European Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. He won the bronze medal at the 2014 European Championships in Vantaa, Finland. Demirtaş also faced some failure he lost to Jumber Kvelashvili of Georgia in the round of 32 at the 2014 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Later he became silver medalist at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. He lost to Narsingh Pancham Yadav from India in the round of 16 at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas, United States. Demirtaş became a second time European champion in 2017 at Novi Sad, Serbia. After winning the Turkish championship he wanted to dedicate the medal to his family. He said “because my father had a dream when I started wrestling. He wanted to see me as a champion”.
