The Impactful Journey of Michael Jordan

Michael Jeffrey Jordan, the renowned retired professional basketball player, was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. He showed the first signs of his interest in athletics when he was in school. He used to play basketball, baseball and football. He was recruited by various college basketball programs, including Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia.

At college level, he was named ACC Freshman of the Year after he averaged 13.4 points per game (ppg) on 53.4% shooting (field goal percentage). His shot while playing for the 1982 NCAA Championship proved to be the turning point of his athletic life, thereafter there was no looking back. He played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. He indeed played an immense role in popularizing the NBA around the world.

At present, he is the principal owner and chairman of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. He was a member of the Tar Heels' national championship team in 1982. Jordan joined the Bulls in 1984 as the third overall draft pick. He beautifully came up as a league star and entertained the crowds with his productive scoring. He was known for being one of the best defensive players of those times. Jordan's individual achievements and accomplishments include five Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards, ten All-NBA First Team designations, nine All-Defensive First Team honors, fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances, three All-Star Game MVP Awards, ten scoring titles, three steals titles, six NBA Finals MVP Awards, and the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. He also bagged the NBA records for highest career regular season scoring average (30.12 points per game) and highest career playoff scoring average (33.45 points per game). He is also internationally renowned for his numerous brand endorsements. On October 6, 1993, Jordan declared his retirement due to loss of desire to play the game.
