The Industrial Revolution
Editorials News | Jul-03-2017
The Industrial revolution took place from the 18th to 19th century. It was a very important phase where predominantly agrarian, rural societies of America and Europe became urban and industry- oriented. Before the revolution, which began in the late 1700s in Britain, there were no manufacturing machines. All the work was done using hand tools and basic machines at homes. Thus, it was industrialization that enabled mass production by factories and use of powered and special purpose machineries.
The iron and textile industries flourished along with the development of steam engine and played a vital role in improved system of transportation, banking and communication.
It was no surprise that Britain was the birthplace of the revolution as they had rich reserves of iron and coal. The British also enacted legislation to prohibit the export of skilled labor and their technology; however, they did not find success in the vision. Industrialization spread like fire from Britain to the European continent aiding countries like Belgium, France Germany and the United States of America. By the early 20th century, U.S had become the leading manufacturing and industrial nation in the world.
