The King of Cricket – MS Dhoni

Cricket is not like any other sport in India. It is indeed a religion or like a sacred feeling for India. Whenever Indians talk of the game of cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) is definitely discussed. He is an Indian International cricketer who was born on July 7, 1981 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He has been the captain of India in limited-overs formats from 2007 to 2016 and in Test cricket from 2008 to 2014.

He plays in the Indian cricket team as a right-handed middle-order batsman and wicket-keeper. MS Dhoni debued in the One Day Internationals (ODI’s) in the month of December 2004 against Bangladesh, and further played his first Test a year later against Sri Lanka. His journey in the world of cricket started in 1998, when he was selected by Deval Sahay to play for the Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL) team. When he attained the age of eighteen years, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar in the 1999–2000 season. He received recognition for his efforts in the 2003/04 season, especially in the One Day format and was picked for the India A squad for a tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya. He has achieved a lot ever since he joined the Indian team. He received numerous awards such as the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009 (the first player to win the award twice), the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007, the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour, in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, in 2018. He was named as the captain of the ICC World Test XI in 2009, 2010 and 2013. He has also been selected a record 8 times in ICC World ODI XI teams, 5 times as captain. He has been conferred with the title of Lieutenant Colonel by the Indian Territorial Army on 1 November 2011. He is the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to receive this honour. His captaincy proved immensely fruitful for India wherein India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the CB Series of 2007–08, the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Lately, a movie titled Dhoni- the Untold Story was also made that described Dhoni’s journey so far.
