The Pioneer of Basketball, Anne Donovan Passed Away

The Women’s basketball legend Anne Donovan passed away due to heart failure. She was aged 56. She was a winner of National Champion at Old Dominion and was introduced into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995. Later in the year 1999 she was included into Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She also became the part of FIBA Hall of Fame in the year 2015. She played a major role in leading the United States Basketball team to win the Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988. At the age of 42, following her retirement as a player, she became the youngest person and the first female coach to win a title in the Women’s National Basketball Association. 

The Women’s Basketball team said "The New York Liberty is deeply saddened by the passing of one of the greatest figures in the history of women's basketball, Anne Donovan. Anne was a true pioneer in our sport, and her influence and leadership had a tremendous impact on the growth of women's basketball and the WNBA. We join the entire women's basketball community in celebrating her life and extraordinary legacy and send our thoughts and prayers to her family during this time”.
