TWO UTTAR PRADESH WIZARD TIES RELOCATED

Two Uttar Pradesh Wizard matches in the Hockey India League (HIL) previously scheduled to be held in Lucknow have been shifted to Delhi. This is owed to the state assembly election in Lucknow on February 19.

The matches are those against Delhi Waveriders on February 19 and Jaypee Punjab Warriors on February 20.

Abhijeet Sarkar, corporate communication head of Sahara India, said that the Lucknow fans will have the biggest loss as they have waited for a whole year for the HIL matches scheduled at Lucknow.

“The matches could have been organized here itself without any problem as game starts at 7pm, two hours after the end of polling. We were ready to handle the pressure of security in the match,” he said.

Uttar Pradesh Wizards, owned by the Sahara India Pariwar, is a part of the cash-rich HIL since its establishment in 2013. Their first home match will be on February 10 against Kalinga Lancers, yesteryear’s runners-up.

The subsequent matches will be held on February 16 against Ranchi Rays, and on February 22 against Dabang Mumbai. All these matches will be held at the Dhyanchand Stadium at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow.
