UFC Star Daniel Cormier To Start New Gilroy Wrestling Era

UFC Champion Daniel Cormier is all set to give a jolt of star power to the Gilroy High wrestling programme by becoming new coach for the Mustangs starting from April 17. Cormier has been one of the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion and a regular analyst and commentator on UFC broadcasts. He has also served as head coach of the current UFC Ultimate Fighter 27. Cormier is pretty excited about the opportunity as wrestling has laid the foundation for whole of his life and everything that he has ever done. Gilroy principle Marco Sanchez was surprised when Cormier reached out to him and showed interest in the position.

Cormier is going to replace Greg Varela who has given Gilroy some spectacular results for the whole last decade. The Mustangs are one of the most well travelled team and just the last season alone, they have competed in high profile national tournaments in Central Valley, Southern California, Reno and the Midwest. Cormier is also bringing Shawn Brunch and Kyle Crutchmer on the team who are both 2 time NCAA Wrestling All Americans. Cormier is joining the team at a great time as the Mustangs are just coming off the record breaking season. They have broken the record of Central Coast Section Championships with most individual champions - 10 and 373 points.
