UP Board Started Citing Strong Checks After 6.52 Lakh Students Fail For Appearing In Exams

Around 6.52 lakh (6,52,881) students did not appear in the recently concluded board examinations which held in Uttar Pradesh. An official cited the strong determination of the board for conducting a free and fair examination in a state where rampant cheating and paper leak was previously the norm. On 2nd March, the last day of the intermediate examinations of the board, a total of 2,019 students did not sit for the English paper.

Over 1.9 lakh students earlier in 2018 including 53,100 high school students were absent on the first day of the examination. The board this year took stringent measures for preventing cheating. According to the board’s press release, till date 403 students were caught cheating with 11 on the last day of the examinations which includes six girls and five boys.

Neena Srivastava, UPSEB secretary said regarding those caught cheating said that it will be considered by the committee and if found guilty, their result will be canceled.  She added that 68 FIRs are lodged by the board in cases of untoward incidents at the time of the examinations.

The incidents of cheating were reported during the 12th class examination of Physics in Muzaffarnagar where 17 people including 14 invigilators were arrested. Over 58 lakh (58,06,922) students are registered for the board examination this year. This was conducted in 8,354 centers across the state. Srivastava said that the results of Class 10th and 12th examinations will be announced in the second or third week of April. She added that the board will also convey the exact date and time soon.

The UP board last year declared the results of class 10th and 12th examinations on 29th April 2018. Around 75.16 percent of students cleared the class 10th examinations. The pass percentage of girls was 78.81 percent, and for boys, it was 72.27 percent.
