
USA Wins Its First Wrestling World Cup Since 2003

Kyle Dake '13 made history by winning four national titles at four different weight classes and becoming the first NCAA wrestler to do so. Now, his newest score of 4-0 run was what contributed in letting United States win its first world cup after a period of 15 years. Dake was at top in every one of its first three matches at 79 kg (around 174 pounds). All of them came by technical superiority until he scored 5-3 in a gold medal match and succeeded in defeating 2 time Olympian and 2016 bronze medalist JabrayilHasanov of Azerbaijan. He, then, joined his teammates David Taylor, Kyle Snyder and Jordan Burroughs competing through 2 day long events with an amazing 4-0 records at Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Stadium.
Dake was also successful in knocking out SachinGiri of India by a score of 11-0 and past medalist SosukeTakatani of Japan 10-0 on day one of the matches. He won them by technical superiority along with another one with TarielGaphrindashvili of Georgia by 10-0 score on Sunday morning. After leading with a score of 2-1 in the second period, Dake earned a takedown, a step out point and was also given a penalty point that held off the Olympic bronze medalist - Hasanov. USA was successful in winning a 6-4 win over Azerbaijan to earn their first team title after 2003.
