Violation Of Standards By Schools, Child Rights Agency Writes To CBSE

The Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child of the MPPCRC, on Thursday, has written to the CBSE office Ajmer citing the violations committed by the private schools of the state and has urged to take cognizance of the matter.

There are no adequate safety provisions in school vehicles for students, preferring books from private publishers to NCERT are some of the concerns raised by the body protecting the rights of the child in the letter.

"We have inspected around 200 schools over the past three years and found that the schools do not comply with the CBSE statutes. While the board recommends that schools give priority to NCERT textbooks and use other books by private publishers as a reference, if necessary, schools do not comply. They use the NCERT books only for Social Sciences and prescribe a list of books by private editors for other topics. Parents have complained that these books are very expensive and pose an additional burden to them. Despite the number of inspections, the schools have not paid attention, "said Brijesh Chouhan, member of MPPCRC.

He also said that schools did not follow safety guidelines since many school buses operated without GPS, CCTV cameras and speed governors.

"CBSE has established strict guidelines for safer school transportation. Many schools have not yet deployed female aides on their buses and vans. Even the vans are not painted yellow, the police verification of most truck drivers is not finished. Buses operate without CCTV cameras and speed controllers. "Two accidents related to school vehicles have been reported in recent months, however, schools continue to have a relaxed attitude towards the safety of children."

Chouhan also added that the MPPCRC has requested the Ajmer Center of CBSE to examine the issue and inspect the matter and take appropriate action against the schools.
