Yuki Bhambri reaches Zhuhai Challenger semi-finals

After missing much of the tennis season in 2016 due to a tennis elbow injury, the 24-year-old Indian tennis player is looking in good form at his first ATP Challenger of the season. Yuki Bhambri reached the semi-finals after his opponent Argentina’s Agustin Velotti retired midway in their quarter-final match.

Velotti reported to be suffering from fatigue and retired just 47 minutes into the match. Bhambri was leading 6-1, 2-1. The unseeded Indian player is ranked 341 in the world, whereas the Argentina player holds the 190 rank.

Bhambri has been delivering impressive performances in the Zhuhai Challenger. He dropped only nine games on his way to the semi-finals. One of his most remarkable wins was against 5th seed Blaz Kavcic of Slovenia.

“Just trying to keep my head down and staying focussed. Hope, I can keep pushing and working hard and make most of the opportunities.” said Bhambri about his semi-final appearance.
