Yuki Bhamri Signs Out of Davis Cup Due to Injury
Editorials News | Apr-03-2018
Youngest member of a successful tennis loving family, Yuki’s boyish charm hides his strong determination. Sibling to Ankita Bhamri and Sanaa Bhamri, it was but natural for young Yuki to follow his sisters to court. The little boy whose racket bag dwarfed his tiny frame is now a towering guy all of 6ft winning accolades for his country and making his family very proud. Yuki’s eldest sister Ankita former professional tennis player had won total of 9 ITF women’s circuit singles and 8 doubles title. Younger sibling Sanaa Bhamri also a former professional tennis player had won 2 ITF single titles and 12 doubles titles.
Yuki Bhamri reached junior No 1 ranking in the world in 2009. At the age of 16 he made history as the first Indian to win the prestigious Orange Bowl. He also won 2 medals for India at the 2014 Asian Games. He also broke into the top 100 on 19th October, 2015.
However, injuries have been troubling him since his graduation to men’s ATP tour. As a matter of fact the recurring injuries also points at the lack of proper physical training program for the budding players in their formative years as well as nonexistent sports science in our country.
Unfortunately due to a muscle tear in his abdomen Yuki Bhamri had to withdraw from his forthcoming Davis Cup Asia- Oceania group-1 tie against China. Prajnesh Gunneshwaran will replace him in the team along with Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal.
