Zaha Hadid- Renowned Iraqi- British Architect

Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi- British architect, was born on 31 October 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq, to an upper-class Iraqi family. She was a well known architect and also the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, in 2004. She received the UK's most prestigious architectural award, the Stirling Prize, in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, she was made a Dame by Elizabeth II for services to architecture, and in 2015 she became the first and only woman to be awarded the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects. Some of the spectacular buildings that have been constructed under her guidance are as follows:
1. Phaeno Science Centre, Wolfsburg, Germany- The Phæno Science Center is an interactive science center in Wolfsburg, Germany, which got completed in 2005. It is based on the idea of a magic box, located in the heart of the city.
2. MAXXI (Museum of XXI Century Arts), Rome, Italy- The MAXXI took more than ten years to complete. It consists of two museums dedicated to art and architecture, an auditorium, a library and media library, a bookshop, a cafeteria, a bar/restaurant, galleries for temporary exhibition, and performances.
3. Bergisel Ski Jump, Innsbruck, Austria- It is located on the Bergisel Mountain. The building consists of a tower and a bridge. This spectacular building is about 90m long and almost 50m high.
4. London Acquatics Centre, London, UK- This magnificient construction consists of smooth interiors and five beautifully curved diving platforms.
5. Port House, Antwerp, Belgium- It is the extended fire station, that was constructed in order to bring together under one roof the Belgian city’s some 500 port authority staff.
Zaha Hadid indeed contributed a lot to architecture all her life.
