Diwali: Festival Of Lights Not Crackers

Diwali is about to come and we are happy that the time of celebration is going to hit again. It is the time to meet and greet our friends and relatives. There is immense love and joy all around. However, amid this joy we tend to forget that how we are harming our mother land and nature by burning those crackers in the name of celebration. The pollution level in our country raises manifolds during and after the Diwali celebrations.
So what’s the point, of such celebration where the after effects are so worse?
Millions of crackers are burned during this period throughout our country each year. Burning crackers have become a ritual on this festival. It is considered a part of the celebration.
Children are especially too excited about burning of crackers. However, even the adults indulge themselves in this activity. Air pollution has reached levels in our country and become all the more high during the festival of Diwali. This has now given rise to numerous health problems.
People, who suffer from the diseases of asthma and other lung problems, are particularly prone to difficulties during Diwali. Their problem augments during this time and it becomes hard for them to breathe.
We must all keep in mind that Diwali is the festival of lights not burning fire crackers. We should refrain ourselves from burning crackers and thus celebrate Diwali in a better way.
Along with air pollution, Land Pollution also reaches heights during this time. The leftover pieces of the crackers that were burnt add to the land pollution. It takes several days to clean these. Some of these pieces are even non-biodegradable. Noise Pollution is also at its peak at Diwali time. Firecrackers not only burn bright but also cause deadly smoke and create enormous amount of noise pollution. This causes a problem for the old people, young students, animals and also sick people. The noises are highly disturbing and even animals are highly affected by it.
Conclusion
Burning firecrackers is causing a serious harm to the environment. It is impacting the life on our Earth. It is ironic how even after knowing the after effects of burning crackers people still indulge in this act. It is high time when we all must stop taking the pleasure in such trivial things and work for a better future.
