Night Side of Venus Got Revealed for the First Time

The beautiful planet Venus is surrounded by strong winds. These winds whirl all around the planet faster than the rotation of Venus. Akatsuki probe conducted by Japan found a big ‘bulge’ in the Venus’s atmosphere. This discovery created a shocking state amongst scientists.

For the very first time, scientists took a look at wind and cloud patterns of the night face of planet Venus. They found that it showed different behavior than from the part facing the Sun. Night side of the planet showed unexpected and unseen cloud types, morphologies and dynamics. Some of these activities appear to be connected to the features of planet’s surface. Javier Peralta of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said that the characterization of how the atmosphere whirls on the night side of Venus on a global scale has been done for the first time.

The study has been published in the journal Nature Astronomy. Peralta was the lead author of the study.
