Canadiens Offer a Leaf to Aho

Maple Leafs hands Kadri over for defense Barrie
Toronto added an important offensive asset to its blue line corps by acquiring Tyson Barrie of the Colorado Avalanche, along with Alex Kerfoot and a sixth-round pick in 2020, for the Nazem Kadri center, the Rosen Street defensive and the third round of the Leafs next June. The avalanche will also retain 50 percent of Barrie's average annual value of $ 5.5 million in the deal.
Last season, Barrie added the seventh point with more points from a defender, with 59, and should be a big boost for the blue line of the Leafs that already has Morgan Rielly, who scored 72 points, including 20 goals, in 2018 -19.
The islanders hold Lee, replace Lehner with Varlamov
It was a difficult start to the first day of free agency for the New York Islanders, as they watched Artemi Panarin's ultimate goal sign with New York rivals and then withstand some criticism from outgoing goalkeeper Robin Lehner about how the team handled their efforts. But the Islands avoided a possible disaster by locking Captain Anders Lee into a seven-year, $ 49 million contract.
Then, the team brought in Lehner's replacement, a fundamental move given Lehner's .930 saving percentage last season was an important reason why the Islanders almost claimed the title of the Metropolitan Division. New York signed 31-year-old goalkeeper Semyon Varlamov for a four-year, $ 20 million contract.
Canadians shoot their shot; send a bid sheet to Aho.
Speculation intensified throughout the off-season, according to which a lower than expected salary cap and a number of top-tier restricted free agents can induce a team to submit a bid sheet and attempt to free a budding star. On Monday afternoon, the Canadians launched with Carolina Hurricanes striker Sebastian Aho, who scored 83 points in 82 games last season and another 12 in 15 playoff games.
After Aho signed the offer sheet, the question now is whether Carolina will match it. The hurricanes currently have 15 players under contract for next season and about $ 22 million in maximum space. Reports from the previous Monday suggested that Carolina would match any bid sheet issued to Aho. While they have the space to do so, the rest of the off-season will become a bit more complicated. It is reported that the offer is charged, which means that Aho would have $ 12 million against the salary cap for the 2019-20 season.
Alternatively, the Hurricanes could be separated from the forwarding and receive compensation for Canadian draft selection. According to the value of the contract offered to Aho, the Canadians would have to send the Hurricanes a first round selection, plus a second and a third round.
Carolina has seven days to announce if it will coincide with the offer.
After losing Artemi Panarin to the other team in New York, the islanders took charge of theirs, getting Captain Anders Lee to sign a seven-year contract worth $ 49 million. Lee, 28, had 28 goals and 23 assists last season. The islanders also signed veteran Colorado Avalanche goalkeeper Semyon Varlamov for a four-year, $ 20 million contract. He went 20-19-9 with 2.87 goals against the average of last season.
The demons add another piece, sign Simmonds.
The New Jersey Devils have been one of the most active teams this offseason, securing the best prospect Jack Hughes in the draft and then trading for defender P.K. They went up. Now they have added another piece to forward Wayne Simmonds in a one-year contract for $ 5 million.
The Blue Jackets knew that it was a risk when they clung to unrestricted free agents Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky at the trade deadline, and then doubled up with Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel. The movement helped them surprise Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs, but they eventually lost to the Boston Bruins in the second round. On the first day of free agency, they saw three of those four players go to other teams. Only Dzingel remains in the market.
Dallas has been busy, bringing former San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski, Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry and Edmonton Oilers defender Andrej Sekera. Sekera and Perry, both bought by their former teams earlier this summer, were one-year bargain purchases, $ 1.5 million each. Pavelski will earn an average of $ 7 million a year over the next three seasons.
