Does Height Matters in Basketball?

We all are always in a dilemma whether height matters in any sport or to be specific, the sport that requires us to push the ball up i.e. basketball. Basketball players usually tend to be tall, thin athletes because somewhere or the other their height helps them to reach toward the basketball goal and also in defending the ball against opponents.
Male professional basketball players usually tend to be about 9 inches taller than the average American male, according to surveys by NBA.com and Dr. Steven Halls on Halls.MD.com. Height also tends to accompany other vital features for a basketball player, including the arm reach and hand span.
Average Heights of NBA
Professional basketball players must be tall for being competitive in the league. In a survey of the average heights of professional basketball players in 2007 to 2008, the average height that was of a basketball player was 6 feet, 6.98 inches tall. The tallest basketball player was Yao Ming, whose height is 7 feet, 6 inches while the shortest basketball player was Nate Robinson, who is of 5 feet, 9 inches height.
Basketball Goal Height and Shooting
The closer a person is with the basketball goal in height, there are more chances of accurate shot by applying the less force to be applied for propelling the basketball into the basket.
Other points like Defensive Positions and Trade-Offs in this sport are also there that suggest the importance of height in sport but we should also remember that sport depends on skills more than these physical attributes.
