Know About Babri Masjid

Babri Masjid i.e. the Mosque of Babur was a mosque in Ayodhya, India at a site which is believed by some Hindus to be the birthplace of Lord Rama. It has been an attention of dispute between the Muslim and Hindu communities since 18th century. As seen in the mosque's inscriptions, it was built in year 1528–29 (935 AH) by general Mir Baqi, on the orders of the Mughal emperor Babur. It was demolished and attacked by Karsevaks in 1992 and also ignited communal violence all over the country.
The mosque was located on the hill of Ramkot i.e. Rama's fort. According to the Hindus, Baqi destroyed the pre-existing temple of Lord Rama at the site. Furthermore the existence of the temple itself is a great matter of controversy. In the year 2003, a report by Archaeological Survey of India it was suggested that there appears to have existed an old structure at the site.
In the starting of the 19th century, there were many conflicts and court disputes between Muslims and Hindus over the mosque. In the year 1949 Hindu activists associated with the Hindu Mahasabha secretly placed idols of Rama inside the mosque, because of which the government locked the building just to avoid further disputes. Court cases were filed by both Muslims and Hindus asking for access.
On 6 December 1992, a huge group of Hindu activists belonging to the Vishva Hindu Parishad and the allied organisations demolished the mosque, triggering the riots all over India, killing around 2,000 people, among them many were Muslim.
