Pure Hydrogen Can Be Produced By This New Catalyst
Editorials News | Aug-17-2017
To produce high – purity hydrogen gas a new low – temperature catalyst has been developed. The process uses carbon monoxide simultaneously. This new low temperature catalyst has been developed by Christopher J. Kiely, Harold B. Chambers, Senior Professor, Materials Science and Engineering at Lehigh University and an international team.
Journal Science consists of this paper which describes the overall discovery. This discovery could improve the working and performance of fuel cells running on hydrogen fuel. The hydrogen fuel cells can be poisoned by CO. The new catalyst is efficient enough to produce purer form of hydrogen to supply it to fuel cell. The paper is ninth in Kiely’s career that got published in the peer- reviewed journal. The paper was on Atomic-layered Au clusters on ?-MoC as catalysts for the low-temperature water-gas shift reaction.
One of the authors is Li Lu who is a final-year Ph.D. candidate advised by Kiely and the other author is Wu Zhou who was his former student and currently is a professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.
