Sjoerd Marijne - A Positive Anticipation

With the beginning of the New Year 2018, Indian men's hockey team has started for a two-week tour of New Zealand for a four-nation invitational hockey tournament. The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalists - Chief Coach, Sjoerd Marijne thinks that the Rio Olympics tournament was a huge learning curve for the team.

Indian team has found four young players and at the same time the comeback of mainstay goalkeeper PR Sreejesh from an eight-month injury lay-off is also a positive point for the team. On his views about the team's performance in the two-leg tournament in which New Zealand and Japan were the opponents, Marijne told the Times of India that the team has come back with a few lessons. The team needed to improve its consistency which it could during the tour. Of the four matches against Belgium, Indian team lost two matches in a very close fight and won and drew the other two matches. Sjoerd Marijne also pointed towards the improvement in field goals and penalty corner conversions. The Indian men's hockey team coach was also happy with the performance of the debutant goalkeeper Krishan Pathak, midfielders Simranjeet Singh and Vivek Prasad and striker Dilpreet Singh. He was happy that the position of players and the conversion re inside the circle has improved a lot. He is looking forward for a wonderful performance by the Indian team.
