An Essay on Winter Season in India

India is a country with an extreme climate. It is extremely hot in summer (April - July), whereas it is extremely cold in winter (December - January). The average temperature during the summer can reach up to 45 degrees Celsius during the summer, whereas it can get as low as 2 degrees Celsius during the winter.
It is therefore important that a person should take sufficient precautions during the summers to avoid injuries caused by intense heat such as heatstroke and dehydration. In winter, one should wear warm or woolen clothing for protection against the intense cold.
The majority of the country experiences five seasons during the year. They are - Winter, summer, autumn, monsoon, and spring.
The Winter Season in India generally lasts from the end of November to March and ends with the celebration of the colorful festival of Holi.
The winter season 2021 is here and as expected it is very cold. The months of December and January are the coldest months of the Winter season when people wear woolen clothes & body warmers.
This winter season months totaling three are marked by low temperatures, intense fog, and chilly winds. An important thing to note here is that different parts of the countries experience the varying intensity of winter. It is extremely cold in Northern and eastern India and states like Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh to name a few experience very harsh winters. On the other hand, cities and states located near the sea, and southern states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu do not have a winter season, and people residing in these states are not required to wear warm clothes during the months when the Northern states are shivering.
The average temperature in winter in northern states range from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, with temperature in a few of the coldest days falling as low as 0 degree Celsius. On the other hand, the temperature is much higher in the southern states, with the lowest temperature hovering around 20 degrees Celsius making it an extremely pleasant time of the year.
The mountains in the country are covered with snow during the winter months, and some of the hilly ranges experience a lot of snowfall which in turn makes them a tourist hotspot. Tourists from all parts of the country visit these places to indulge in fun activities like skiing, ice skating, and ice biking among others. Children too indulge in a lot of fun acts like snowball fighting, snow sculpting, building snow castles, creating different figures from snow, etc.
Dewdrops in the night, and it is not uncommon to see dew drops on flowers, plants, and grasses in the morning. It looks extremely beautiful as trees and plants glisten in the dew looking all fresh and watered. Also, when fog descends, it seems as if clouds have descended from the sky onto the ground. Apart from beautiful snowy landscapes, delicious food synonymous with cold weather makes winters extremely pleasant in India.
Different regions in the country have their trademark food items and dishes for the winter season. People are often seen enjoying Gajar ka Halwa, Chikki, Rogan Josh, Sarson ka saag with Makki ki roti, Thukpa, etc. These dishes apart from tingling our taste buds to the full are also nutritious and also help keep at bay ailments related to cold weather keep such as runny nose, viral fever, cough, sneezing, etc. Also, a wide variety of hot beverages and soups are consumed by people to keep the body warm. And coming to clothing, people to better cope with the dropping temperature like to wear jackets, coats, sweaters, shawls, sweatshirts, etc. Mufflers, gloves, socks, and earmuffs are worn to protect hands, feet, and ears from the harsh weather.
The Winter season is also marked by an abundance of vegetables like cabbage, radish, carrots, peas, tomatoes, coriander, cauliflower, spinach. Fruits like orange, apple, papaya are also found in abundance in winter.
The Winter season also brings with it a lot of joyous festivals like Makar Sakranti, Lohri, Christmas, and New Year.
To sum it up, the winter season in India means starting on a joyous ride filled with a lot of delicious food, fresh fruit, vegetables, trips, and festivities.
