Kapil Dev- The Legendary Cricketer

In India, the whole country is crazy about the sport cricket. This craziness for sports India begins from the winning of the cricket World Cup 1983. The hero of this world cup was legendary cricketer none other than Mr. Kapil Dev. Let’s take a brief look at how he becomes a legendary cricketer from timber merchant son.
This journey from becoming a legend starts on 6 January 1959 in Chandigarh, Punjab, India. His father’s name was Mr. Ramlal Nikunj and he was a timber merchant. His mother’s name was Mrs. Rajkumari. Before the partition of India-Pakistan, he used to live in Pakistan with his parents but after the partition of India-Pakistan, they started residing in India. He studied at DAV College and for higher studies, he went to ST. Edward college. His parents also supported him and encourage him to play cricket. He already knew that if he had to become a good fast bowler his shoulder should be strong enough so he practice chopping the log of woods. After seeing his brilliant bowling in November 1975 he got an offer to play for the Haryana Ranji team. In his first match, he took 6 wickets for the team and after his performance in the first match, he showed everyone that a new star in the world of cricket has arrived. In his Ranji season, he played 30 matches and took 121 wickets and after his brilliant bowling performance, he got to play for Irani Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Wills Trophy as well. He left a mark with his bowling performances on the domestic level after his excellent performance in domestic level he debuted for India on 16th October 1978 against Pakistan in a test match. After this series Indian team got and brilliant bowler and an aggressive batsman too. After some days of the Pakistan series he had hit the first international hundred against West Indies, it was a special century because at that time West Indies has the best bowling lineup in the world. In his beginning 25 matches he took 100 wickets and scored 1000+ runs he was the only Indian cricketer at that time to do so. From his great leadership skill, he got captaincy in 1982 against Sri Lanka and he gradually became a regular captain of the Indian team. In the year 1983, the biggest challenge that came in his captaincy career was World Cup 1983. But under his captaincy, India won the World Cup for the first time beating West Indies which was the toughest team at that time. In this World Cup, he scored 303 runs and took 12 wickets, and with his excellent fielding, he took 7 catches and won many matches for the team. After serving India for such a long period he took retirement in the year 1994. In his career, he played 131 test matches and scored 5,238 runs and took 434 wickets and in his ODI career, he scored 3,783 runs and took 253 wickets. Because of all these achievements, he was also awarded Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Arjuna awards.
No other player will be able to fulfill his absence. Because of his hard work and determination, he became the legendary cricket of all time.
