Rising Environmental Pollution
General News | Jan-08-2021
Our environment is the natural world which surrounds us. It is the natural world which fulfils our basic and daily requirements. This natural world is responsible for our life. This is because this natural world consists of basic things like land, water and air which we require for survival. But due to the increase in population, our needs are also increasing day by day. Because of this, we humans are misusing things and taking them for granted. That is the reason for pollution.
Pollution, also known as environmental pollution is the addition of contaminants or pollutants into the natural environment. Environmental pollution is mainly of three main types; land pollution, air pollution and water pollution.
Now that we know that environmental pollution is rising rapidly, it is important to know that why is it increasing and how can we contribute to reducing it.
Environmental pollution is rising rapidly, especially in India because of the following causes:
Burning of fossil fuels: Most of the air pollution, which is an important part of environmental pollution is caused because of the burning of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum etc. for energy production.
Transportation: Due to increase in population, the number of vehicles per family is increasing. The pollutants from these vehicles also cause environmental pollution.
Garbage: When garbage is not disposed of properly and is thrown here and there it mixes up with water, especially rainwater and contaminates the water bodies causing environmental problems again! If it doesn’t pollute the water bodies, still animals spread it over in search of food and soil loses its fertility. Most of the times it becomes the reason for the animal’s death.
Now that we know about some main causes of environmental pollution, let’s know about some easy ways by which we can contribute to reducing it.
Public transportation systems or carpool: One should start using public transports or start doing carpool as it can help in reducing the number of vehicles and can prevent air pollution.
Avoid flushing medications: Medications like medicine scraps and even tablets when flushed or thrown using a wrong way can cause a blockage. The chemicals present in such medications can kill the bacteria which helps in decomposing the sewage. Thus, one should avoid flushing medications.
Use fans instead of air conditioners: Air conditioners require more energy as compared to fans. At the same time, AC’s also take out harmful gases that cause a lot of global warming.
Therefore, everything is in our hands. If we wish to protect our environment and prevent environmental pollution then we can do it!
