Sports Achievements: India's Performance in Recent International Events

India has experienced a great shift in regard to the nation’s sports culture in the recent past, with the country’s athletes performing tremendously in various fields on the international platform. The academic year up to and including the year 2024 has been especially productive, many significant accomplishments that have made the pride of the country have been recorded. 

Cricket
The latest event to look forward to is the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Cricket is still the most followed sport in India, and the successfully electric performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was more than expected. Thus, we are talking about the Indian cricket team that has entered the finals following a series of very interesting matches, with Rohit Sharma being the team captain. A few players, such as Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, played exceptionally well; more so, Kohli emerged as the highest run-scorer in the tournament. While India came only second to England, the game that the team played was extremely spirited, and the outcome of the final proved that they deserved the title.

Women's Cricket
On the cricket front also India’s women cricket team had a magnificent performance in the year 2024. They made a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final, where surprises the Indian audience with Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. Their achievements have ensured that today women’s cricket in India is on the ascendancy.

Athletics

Olympic Games 2024
Paris 2024 Olympics was historical for India. The man that won gold in javelin throw Neeraj Chopra repeated his victory in Olympics and thus won the match leaving behind his competitors with outstanding throw. In track events, Avinash Sable created history by winning silver in 3000m steeplechase and prove that India has improve in Athletics.

Commonwealth Games 2022
The athletes of the Indian contingent performed outstanding during the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and secured as many medals as they could; 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze medals to be precise; hence claiming the fourth place in the rankings. The most productive was the wrestling team, which, represented by Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, brought several medals. There were also great achievements in weightlifting; Mirabai Chanu clinched gold in the women’s 49kg division.

Badminton
Badminton players from India have on and off maintained their reign on the world circuits. The year 2024 saw PV Sindhu clinch yet another title in her badminton career; All England Open Badminton Championship. Kidambi Srikanth also showed good performance and so as, Lakshya Sen who reached the finals of BWF World Championships.

Hockey
Men's Hockey
Thus, finally, regaining its monopoly in the field, the Indian men’s hockey team claimed the FIH Hockey Pro League in 2024. This was so after emerging victorious against other strong teams such as of Belgium and Australia. Its play-making and skillfulness in the conduct under the head coach Graham Reid has revived India’s golden stint of hockey.

Women's Hockey
The Indian women’s hockey team recently rose to fame whilst they secured a position at the FIH Hockey World Cup 2022 for the bronze. The helpless struggle for victory and the excellent mutual cooperation were reflected when they defeated the strong teams and took their place on the podium.

Boxing
Over the years, Indian boxers have demonstrated the ability of the country’s fighters on the international map. The year 2023 witnessed Amit Panghal and Lovlina Borgohain winning gold medals in the AIBA World Boxing Championships to announce India as a boxing nation.

Tennis
In tennis and singles, positive changes can be noted with Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza, who fought through to get to the final round in the Australian Open 2024 mixed doubles. I can safely say that their performance was a befitting epitaph of the prowess and passion that was evident in their sport.

Shooting
Indian shooters have carried forward this form and have performed immensely well in the ISSF World Cup series. Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker continued to medal in 2024, with Bhaker finally securing gold in the 10m Air Pistol event; here, India proved their force in shooting events.

In conclusion, Recent performances of the Indian team in international sports have been nothing less than spectacular. The commitment and efforts put in by the athletes have helped bring laureates to the nation. India is very keen on improving its sports facilities and training, and the growth of sporting talents is expected to be even greater in the coming years. The year up to and including 2024 is a tough yardstick to beat, and it will spur on a new wave
