68th National School Games started in Jammu

The 68th National School Games started in Jammu on November 7, 2024. The prestigious event which is organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory (UT) will culminate on December 10, 2024. The School Games Federation of India contributes significantly to its association with the National School Games. India will witness a month of intense competition and camaraderie by bringing together young sportspersons from different states, thus celebrating the spirit of youth and the powers of sports to unite.

On November 15, 2024, at 6:10 pm, the Jharkhand state team arrived at Jammu to participate in the Under-17 Fencing for the boys and girls categories. The team comprises 17 promising young athletes consisting of 11 boys and 6 girls. They were accompanied by two coaches and one manager, thus bringing the total delegation to 20 members. These budding fencers from Jharkhand are keen to showcase their skills and bring glory to their state in the exhilarating world of fencing.

The Jharkhand team received a warm welcome upon their arrival, with officials from Jammu’s Department of Youth Services and Sports present to honor their arrival. Mukesh Sharma from Government High School Deeli in Channi Himat, Mandeep Singh from Government M.M. School Satwari, and Jasvinder Kour from Government M.M. School Makwal, all members of the Youth Services and Sports Department of Jammu & Kashmir UT, were on hand to greet the team. The officials adorned the players and staff with garlands, extending a traditional welcome that reflects the warmth and hospitality of the region.

Adding to the glorious occasion, Jatinder Mishra, Deputy Director, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Jammu & Kashmir UT, also made his presence to welcome and motivate the team. Mishra expressed his encouragement and support for the visiting athletes, acknowledging the rigorous preparation they have undergone to compete at the national level.

The arrival of the Jharkhand fencing team marks an exciting addition to the National School Games, which sees thousands of young talents competing across multiple disciplines. As the team settles into Jammu, they are eager to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the games, with high hopes of making their state proud. The Jharkhand fencers, determined and focused, aim to make a mark in the Under-17 fencing categories and are poised to give their best performance amidst the cheers and excitement of this celebrated sporting event.
