Maroon Gold Fish Named After Barack Obama

The researchers have found a maroon and a gold fish 300 feet deep in the waters off Kure Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. The researchers have named the fish after President’s name as an honour. This year President Obama has promised to save the nature through an increase of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

The fish belongs to Tosanoides genus and was discovered in June 2016 at the world’s northern most coral islands during the research trip to Kure. According to the researchers the island is made of huge coral reefs.

The researchers have referred the Papahanaumokuakea Marin National Monument as home to millions of sea creatures such as seabirds, endangered turtles, endangered monk seals, and many more.

The site is home for 7,000 species including this newly found Obama-fish. A researcher also got surprised because the fish is only found within the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument surrounding 1,510,000 square kilometer of sea water. The researchers have cleared in a statement that this newly found fish showed a new species of Tosanoides genus.
