The Hybrid Sport of Footgolf- Origin and Development

Footgolf is the new hybrid sport combining golf and football. It is a precision sport. In this game, the players kick a regulation No. 5 size soccer ball into a cup in as few kicks as possible.

The game is more closely related to golf and its rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. The only difference between footgolf and golf is that in the game of footgolf the players use a soccer ball instead of a golf ball, and the ball is kicked rather than struck with a club, towards a 21-inch diameter cup instead of a usual golf hole. The player who finishes the course in the least number of shots wins. This game is usually played on golf courses. It can also be played on specially built grass footgolf courses. The first shot on each hole is played from the tee box. In order to reach the hole, bunkers, trees, water and hills have to be crossed or avoided. Michael Jansen and Bas Korsten were the creators of the Footgolf uniform and basic rules. They officially launched FootGolf in Netherlands in 2008. They also organised the first footgolf tournament which was played by a mix of Dutch and Belgian professional footballers. In June 2012, three countries came together to form the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG). The first Footgolf World Cup took place in Hungary and 8 countries participated in it. Presently, many countries around the globe organise matches, events, tournaments, national leagues around this game.
