4 TIPS TO IMPROVE PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIP

Here are four crucial guidelines to resolve conflict and improve relationship with your child.

1. Avoid the conflict: Before tension builds up in your head and you want to shout it out, decide yourself that a conflict is unnecessary. Take a deep breath and visualize yourself an hour from now. The tension will simply melt away.

2. Acknowledge your child’s concerns: We definitely have authority over our children. But, we should also value their perspectives. Often children display rational behavior. So, question, listen and try to understand them.

3. Empower your child to some extent: Children need some freedom to determine their own future. So, the next time your child wants to play a little longer ask him why. Listen to his reasons, and give him a choice to make.

4. Resist the recurring compulsion: Observe the usual conflict pattern you get into. Devote some efforts into changing a few actions in that process. For example, you find that normally a conflict begins when you start shouting at your child for fighting with his sibling. Next time, intrude and listen to why they started that fight. This will motivate effective communication between you both.
