Calcutta Introduced New Ways of Lightening Bags From Using Elevators To Sharing Books

The Singhania Academy of Lakshmipat introduced this system after students who had to climb to the top floor with heavy bags complained of back pain. The school has made several other changes as well in an attempt to reduce the weight of school backpacks. "We have eliminated the exercise books and have reduced the pages from 128 to 64," said director Meena Kak.

Several schools have already begun to implement the guidelines to make the backpacks lighter. Those who have not yet done so should think about what they are subjecting to the students and the consequences.

Sharing textbooks in the classroom is something that almost all schools in the city have implemented to drastically reduce the weight of the bags. Some even encourage children to leave their art and craft books, mental math and value education textbooks at school because they are not needed at home.
