CBSE is Against the Direction of UT Administration
Editorials News | Sep-21-2018
On August 9, 2017, as per the directions from the Madras High Court to the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), schools can now only prescribe NCERT (The National Council of Educational Research and Training) textbooks as per CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) circular.
In a major move, in the compliance of the two circulars from the MHRD, UT Administration has ordered that only NCERT books should be prescribed in all schools in June and July. On September 13, the district education Officer (DEO) has ordered all the private, government-aided and government schools. Other orders like the students from class 1 and 2, no homework could be assigned and reducing the weight of bags should also be followed.
For Classes 1 and 2, the High Court has also directed the MHRD to not prescribe any other subjects except language and Mathematics. For classes 3 and 4, it is only for language, environmental science, and mathematics. It would be a great relief to the parents who have been requesting UT administration over the past two years. Parents are also complaining that it also burnt a hole in their pocket. According to the schools, NCERT books had several mistakes and CBSE has not taken action in this matter.
NCERT books are very inexpensive than the books by private publisher.
However, CBSE challenged this order from the Madras High Court. CBSE stated that it was against the directions to prescribe only NCERT books, not any other books published by private publishers.
