CBSE: PISA Type Questions On The X-Class Exams From 2020
Editorials News | Apr-28-2019
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today decided to present two international questions of type evaluation of students in the examinations of Class X for mathematics, English and sciences from 2020.
Today, an orientation to familiarize teachers with the Program for the International Student Assessment (PISA), in which Anita Karwal, President of CBSE, was present. The questions of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) are based on competence and measure to what extent students have acquired the essential capacity for participation in modern societies.
The UT also proposed to reprogram the routine schedule of the schools incorporating the PISA program to reach the students. "We are in the process of developing standard PISA material that will be added to the curriculum and then the schedule will be adjusted appropriately," said UT Secretary of Education BL Sharma.
The directors of the schools have been told to prepare an annual pedagogical plan for June, as the board analyzes the plans.
The CBSE also reviewed the three-year statistical analysis of the results of the board of directors of the public schools, private schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidhlayas of the UT compared to the national average during the orientation. According to the analysis, the performance of public schools was below private schools, while Navodaya schools performed better than private schools.
Sharma said the PISA test was the real challenge since almost a third of the student population in public schools are from slums and rehabilitation colonies. He announced that mathematics would be the main domain of PISA-2021.
Karwal, while reviewing the graphs of the overall performance index of the board's results over the years, said that it was necessary to integrate the new quality of education. She said that PISA was not an institution that would stay forever, but an instrument to improve the teaching-learning process. She said that nobody was testing anyone, and that PISA was just to improve the level of learning.
The UT plans to extract material from the United States and Singapore to develop a curriculum based on PISA. About UT preparations, three expert committees have been formed in subjects for mathematics, language literacy and science.
PISA is a three-year international survey (every three years) that aims to evaluate the educational system worldwide by assessing the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students. It will be carried out in 2021.
Students are evaluated in reading, math, science and collaborative problem solving. Participation in PISA allows benchmark performance in a wide range of countries.
