Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by Union Government of India.
CBSE has asked all schools affiliated to follow only NCERT curriculum. There are approximately 19,316 schools in India and 211 schools in 25 foreign countries affiliated to the CBSE. The first education board to be set up in India was the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education in 1921, which was under jurisdiction of Rajputana, Central India and Gwalior. In 1952, the Union Government formed the CBSE to regulate the state education bodies under single control. CBSE has released the list of Vocational Subjects (Skill Education) for class 10th and 12th of forthcoming exams in the month of February-March, 2019. Along with skill subjects (vocational), the board has also decided to conduct the examination of some other academic subjects which are being opted by small number of students. The notification states as, "The list of candidates (LOC), i.e., the examination forms have not yet been filled, therefore, after receiving the complete data of examinees, who would be appearing in Class 10 and in Class 12 examination in 2019, the subject list of February and March/April month will be finalized and communicated looking into the combination of subjects opted by the students". The distribution of marks for Secondary i.e. Classes 9th and 10th for session 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively and for Senior Secondary i.e. Classes 11th and 12th is given in front of the relevant vocational course. While for Secondary level the distribution of marks is equal i.e. 50 marks for theory and 50 marks for practical exams, it varies for Senior Secondary level from course to course. The Central Board of Secondary Education has also enlisted job roles that candidates can take up after pursuing a particular course. As per the order of High Court of Delhi, it has directed the Delhi University and CBSE to ensure from the commencing academic year, the result of CBSE, including re-evaluation, is taken into consideration while determining the cut-off date for admission to colleges of the University of Delhi. In 2018, the examinations of 10th and 12th class were held from March to April. A total of 10.76 lakh students registered for the exam, out of which 10.20 lakh had appeared. Except, 40 listed different skill/ vocational subjects, the board will conduct exams for Typography and Computer Applications (English), Web applications, Graphics, Office Communication, etc in February as these subjects have larger practical part and comparative shorter theory part of papers.
