Chicken
The Tyrannosaurus rex was considered one of the largest, most fearsome animals that ever existed. It has turned out to be the king of the dinosaurs and actually shares a surprising amount of DNA with the modern day chickens! In fact, we can say birds are commonly thought to be the only animals around today that are known to be direct descendants of dinosaurs.
Crocodiles
Although we know birds may be the only “modern" dinosaurs, there are also plenty of animals around today which share some impressive connections with the ancient animals. For example, we know dinosaurs are reptiles, a group which also includes turtles, crocodiles and snakes! Although they have split off pretty early on, dinosaurs and these animals share among themselves common ancestors.
Sea Turtles
Like crocs and 'gators, there are sea turtles which are reptiles, just like dinosaurs. In fact, they’re often regarded as “cousins” of dinosaurs! They have developed alongside dinosaurs, emerging as a distinct type of turtle which is about 110 million years ago.
Sharks
Sharks have been there around a long, long time. The sharks that first emerged around 450 million years ago, with modern sharks first appearing around 100 million years ago, it is known that today’s sharks are descended from relatives that can swim alongside dinosaurs in prehistoric times. In fact, the largest predator which is known of all time was a shark called a Megalodon
