Editorials News | Dec-21-2018
Recently the government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has directed 105 schools which come in the national capital to put a stay on for not making their criteria public of their process of nursery admission of the general category within the prescribed deadline. As in the NCT of Delhi, around 1,600 private schools kicked off on 15th December 2018 for the admission process of entry-level (nursery) classes for the general category for the academic session 2019-20.
As all the private un-aided schools were expected to make public the criteria on their respective school websites for admission along with their points to be listed a day before i.e., December 14, but many schools administration have failed to abide by the directions of Directorate of Education (DoE)’s, Government of NCT of Delhi. Thereafter on 15th December, the DoE gave a prior warning that the defaulter schools explaining the unnecessary delay beyond December 15, 9 pm shall invite for the necessary action to be taken against them under Section 24(4) of the Delhi School Education Act and Rules (DSEAR) 1973. Sanjay Goel, Director of Education issued an order well before time which reads as “... in order to maintain reasonability, transparency and uniformity in admission, the process of these 105 schools for General Category admission at entry level for the session 2019-20 who didn’t follow the instructions, shall be on hold till they finally upload the required admission criteria latest by 9.00 pm of December 15,”. However, most of the schools out of these 105 are observed to not hold on the admission process despite the serious objections by the DoE. Thereafter, the governments of Delhi have advised the parents to not approach such defaulting schools till the time further orders are issued by the government to avoid any kind of problem. For which the complete list of the schools doing default has been uploaded on the website of DoE (http://www.edudel.nic.in). Out of the criteria that have been displayed by schools for admission to nursery classes, the major ones are the total distance of student's residence from school, first child, single child, number of sibling and parents being the alumni of the school. Also as per the rules of Union government Twenty-five per cent of the seats in pre-school, pre-primary and Class I will have to be reserved for disadvantaged groups/economically weaker sections.
