Educating students for LGBTQ+

Since 2018 in India the time of addressing sexualities and gender identity has now been initiated by the society. Where the citizens of India are now uncovering their true identities and understanding differences, there is still a chronic buzz about the advice which is not clear by most of the people.

According to section 377 of Indian penal code, with the assistance of 5 judges who examined this subject thoroughly, announced to decriminalize subjects of sexualities. It was told to the citizens of the country that all identities and sexualities are valued among this section. The Court has approved prerequisites in Section 377, to criminalise non-consensual acts or sexual acts performed. As per the past judgements of the supreme court, it was quoted that whosoever will violate this section, will be provided with the due punishment as per the crime they commit.

Supporting LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning) in the education system is furthermost responsibility of each one us. For students community, it is vital to make them comprehend this judgement and let them know about fundamental rights expression without any fear.

From a long time, the LGBTQ+ community was struggling for their rights and acknowledgement in society. The students shall acknowledge and support their friends to feel and experience the freedom of living with their identities entirely.

With the benefit of school programs, there should be recreations conducted for students, where activities deeming sexualities and identities should be acknowledged. A safe environment shall be given to each student so that they prepare themselves for a fearless future. The classroom environment also affects a child's psychology and overall development. School and students at their good, shall take initiatives to put up happy signs of accepting lgbtq+ identities among them.

Homophobia in the times of changing world is growing day by day among adolescents. It is a need of an hour to acknowledge this fear among students by providing child counsellors in schools so that students can also experience the feeling of joy and acceptance in their golden years.

With help of peers and close community circles, people can take the initiative of organising workshops on such topics that are not easy to understand by children. These steps can empower a healthy environment for all kinds of identities, As education is the most powerful weapon to safeguard oneself. With the help of correct education and awareness, we can transform our children into prosperous global citizens.
