Erosion of Dark Material from Layers in Martian Bedrock

Erosion of Dark Material from Layers in Martian Bedrock

One possible place has been spotted by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) where sand grains are being produced on Mars. It is a fact that we see active sand dunes on Mars. These sand dunes on Mars require sand particles that must be resupplied to restore the grains that are lost over time.

MRO spotted Martian region exhibits dark material that is being eroded from dark layers in the semicircular bedrock depression near the boundary of the Southern highlands and the Northern lowlands. The notion that these dark sediments are derived locally is supported by downslope lineations. NASA said while releasing the photo that these dark sediments have not accumulated here by any coincidence or because of the winds. Scientists have found hazardous existence of the sand grains that build up the sand dunes on Earth and Mars. It is because of the way that they travel. By the process of saltation, wind – blown sand is lifted above the surface of each planet before landing on the ground.
