Government Pre Schools Instructed To Teach In English

Schooling is the key for any nation. Imparting quality education both at the primary and secondary level is extremely important. The government plays a very crucial role by introducing reforms in order to better the education system in India, most importantly the government schools.

Lately, the government schools running the pre-school classes have been ordered to make sure that the classes that they conduct are in English medium, especially for students who have made a shift from private schools to government schools. It has been done because otherwise it will be very difficult for such students to cope up in the government schools. Shri Krishan Kumar, Secretary (School Education), in a communication to the District Education Officers and school heads, stated that in the ongoing enrolment drive of the present academic year, it has been observed that parents of children studying in private schools are highly keen and interested in admitting their children in the government schools in the name of ‘quality education’. Therefore, it is extremely important to take care of each and every aspect and parameter and ensure that the expectations of the parents are fulfilled. He further stated that parents always wish that their children get quality education. Indeed that is the only reason why parents run away from government schools and are more inclined towards private ones. It is important to change this mindset by bringing about reforms. A senior department functionary stated that another important reform is required in the attitude of the teachers. The teachers need to be more students friendly. The teachers have to involve themselves in the entire process and play a key role. Parents will have the freedom to criticize the use of harsh language by the teachers. Also, the school administration has to make sure that school staff gives special attention to building a congenial atmosphere on the campus. It is crucial to change the image of the government schools in the eyes of the public. It is a common phenomenon that parents keep complaining about the poor infrastructure, lazy teachers, lack of care etc. in the government schools. It is important to introduce changes on various fronts in order to better the situation. Upon the advice of the parents, the government is looking forward to bringing about changes in various areas such as infrastructure, medium of instruction, professionalism of teachers, dress code of teachers, provision of basic facilities etc.
